Is the heart of production ready for change?

27 November 2025

As one of the most critical pillars of Türkiye’s industrial infrastructure, Organized Industrial Zones today stand at the center of production, exports and employment. Enterprises operating in four hundred sixteen zones account for a substantial share of the country’s industrial output and its exports that exceed two hundred seventy billion dollars. This clearly shows the decisive role these zones play in the Turkish economy.

But now we must ask a fundamental question. Where do these production hubs stand as the economy transforms so rapidly?

Organized Industrial Zones under pressure as energy costs rise

As energy consumption in industry continues to increase, the rising costs of electricity and natural gas are directly affecting the sustainability of production in these zones. In some areas, ongoing capacity and infrastructure issues are also making production planning more difficult.

For this reason, enterprises operating in these zones have recently been raising two fundamental questions with growing urgency.

  • Can I remain competitive under current cost conditions?
  • How will I sustain production if there is any interruption in energy supply?

These questions will shape not only the future of individual enterprises but also Türkiye’s overall competitive strength.

Digitalization is replacing traditional methods

As the global production landscape moves rapidly toward digitalization, competing through traditional methods is no longer possible. Investments in digital infrastructure have become essential to ensure that production processes can be monitored, efficiency can be improved and costs can be brought under control.

For enterprises operating in these zones, digitalization is not simply a step toward modernization. It is the core requirement for maintaining competitiveness. Investments in this area are especially critical for small and medium sized enterprises, as they directly support productivity gains and access to international markets.

Green transformation has become the new passport of the modern era

As environmental standards tighten across global trade, green transformation has become a strategic necessity for Organized Industrial Zones. The European Union’s carbon border adjustment mechanism has already begun to directly affect producers in Türkiye.

For this reason, reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency and expanding clean production practices are now critical for these zones to maintain their competitiveness. Green transformation is no longer only a matter of environmental responsibility; it has become a prerequisite for remaining present in international markets.

A period of change and transformation is approaching

Organized Industrial Zones now stand at a clear point of transition. Managing energy costs, accelerating digitalization and aligning with green production standards are becoming unavoidable strategic priorities for the period ahead.

As a result, the road map these zones follow will shape not only regional development but also Türkiye’s industrial policy and export performance. The future of Türkiye’s production model will depend largely on how rapidly, systematically and decisively this transformation is carried out.
